In this article, we will introduce you to the most popular CrossFit exercises and give you an overview of the basic elements of CrossFit. From pull-ups to squats to burpees, we’ll show you which exercises you should know to take your fitness to the next level.
Pull-ups
Pull-ups are a bodyweight exercises, where you pull yourself up on a bar. It mainly works your back and arm muscles. If you don’t feel confident enough to do a full pull-up yet, you can also start with exercises like lat pull-downs or ring rows to work your muscles.
Squats
Squats are a leg exercise where you squat down and then stand back up. They primarily affect the muscles of the thighs and buttocks. There are many variations of squats, such as the goblet squat, the front squat, or the overhead squat.
Push-up
Push-ups are a chest and arm exercise in which you hold yourself on the floor with your arms and legs extended and then push yourself back up.
This is s very effective exercise for strengthening the arm and chest muscles. If you are not able to do a full push-up, you can also start with push-ups on a bench or pull-up bar.
Sit-ups
Sit-ups are stomach exercises in which you lift yourself up from the ground and then lay back down again. Those are a great way to strengthen the muscles in the stomach and build a stable core. There are also many different variations of sit-ups, such as russian twists or reverse crunches.
Burpees
Burpees are a full-body exercises in which you squat from a standing position, then do a push-up and stand up again.
Those exercises are a very strenuous but effective exercise which builds endurance, strength and coordination. If a full burpee is still too much, you can start with simpler variations such as squat jumps or plank jacks.
Snatch
Another well-known CrossFit exercise which you should know is the Snatch. The Snatch is a full-body exercise in which you pick up a barbell or dumbbell from the floor and lift it over your head in a quick motion. It is a very challenging exercise which requires a lot of coordination and explosive strength and works the muscles in your legs, back and shoulders. If you can’t perform a complete snatch, you can also start with lighter weights or exercises like Hang Snatches or Power Snatches. The Snatch is an important exercise in CrossFit and should definitely be included in your training program.
